All About Lady Gaga’s Next Album, ‘LG7’

Lady Gaga has been hinting at new music for a while, posting photos of herself in the recording studio to Instagram in between filming her role as Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux. Much to the delight of fans, she finally announced that another album is on the way, During her Gaga Chromatica Ball film premiere in Los Angeles this spring, Gaga shared more details on the upcoming album during the event’s Q&A.

“I am in the studio every single day. I have written so many songs, I’ve been producing so many songs, and it’s nothing like anything that I’ve ever made before,” she said. “I love to break genre, and I love to explore music. There’s something really beautiful about knowing that you will be loved no matter what you do.”

She explained that the Chromatica Ball Tour of 2022 really set the tone of her artistic process for the new songs.

“Something I’m definitely exploring right now is sort of the art of intensity and I think that the art of intensity actually began during this tour,” she explained. “But I’m not done with it yet.”

 When will LG7 be released?

The album drops in February, she told Vogue, though the exact release date hasn’t been announced yet. The first single drops in October.

Gaga hinted at the release of her new album at the end of her Gaga Chromatica Ball film, which debuted in May 2024. At the end of the film, a clip of one of her brand new songs played over the words, “LG7. Gaga returns.” No date was shared at the time, and the only lyrics that were really discernible sounded like “dance in the shadow…of the night.”

What is the album’s lead single?

Gaga is kicking off the album with “Disease,” which dropped on October 25. She shared the official music video four days later, with elaborate visuals inspired by the singer’s battles with her inner demons. Watch and listen to the song below.

What other albums has Gaga released?

This would be Lady Gaga’s seventh album after The Fame (2008), The Fame Monster (2009), Born This Way (2011), Artpop (2013), Joanne (2016), and Chromatica (2020).

She also collaborated with Tony Bennett on 2014’s Cheek to Cheek and 2021’s Love for Sale while working on the soundtrack for 2018’s A Star Is Born. She also released Harlequin, including songs featured in Joker: Folie à Deux, ahead of the theatrical release.

What has Gaga said about the new music?

In an interview with Drag Race star Sasha Velour on HBO Max’s YouTube in June, Lady Gaga revealed some more about her process.

“I have just been in the studio all the time, and I’m making a lot of music,” Gaga told Velour. “It’s just this incredibly vast experience that I just feel so lucky that I get to have. I’m excited for Monsters to hear where I am now, and to be connecting on that level again.”

LG7 will mark a return to pop music, and you can thank Gaga’s fiancé, Michael Polansky, for that. “Michael is the person who told me to make a new pop record. He was like, ‘Babe. I love you. You need to make pop music,’” she told Vogue.

Polansky even added, “Like anyone would do for the person they love, I encouraged her to lean in to the joy of it. On the Chromatica tour, I saw a fire in her; I wanted to help her keep that alive all the time and just start making music that made her happy.”

Though the record will lean pop, the subject matter won’t all be light. Gaga explained to Vogue that “there’s a lot of pain associated with this adventure.” She added, “And when I start to explore that pain it can bring out another side to my artistry. When I’m here at this studio [Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La], I’m relaxed and I am able to face my demons and what’s remarkable is… that’s the music. I’m able to hear it back.”
