Bulgari is ushering in the Lunar New Year in grand fashion with a brand-new exhibition in Shanghai. Perfectly timed to the Year of the Snake, “Serpenti Infinito”—which opens tomorrow and runs through Feb. 16, 2025—pushes the boundaries of creativity to offer an interactive experience that explores the house’s 140-plus-year heritage and savior faire inspired by the mythical snake. At Zhangyuan, the largest Shikumen compound in the area, archival watches will be on display, along with never-before-seen high jewelry creations, virtual reality installations, transforming backdrops, and product showcases to fully immerse visitors in the world of Serpenti.
The Year of the Snake is a significant event in Chinese culture, symbolizing renewal and prosperity. And when Bulgari celebrated the 75th anniversary of its Serpenti collection in 2023, it kicked off an international tour, focusing on the reptile as a symbol of strength throughout many different countries. For its latest opening, world renowned Turkish artist Refik Anadol will unveil “Infinite: AI Data Sculpture,” a three-dimensional piece in the center of a 360-degree mirrored room which creates a unique interaction between light and form. Additionally, there will be 28 artworks by 19 Chinese and international artists, many created to mark the Chinese New Year.
Bulgari’s executive creative director of jewelry Lucia Silvestri explained how Serpenti holds a special place in her heart, as she received a yellow gold Serpenti ring from her father on her 18th birthday, which she still wears and proudly showed me. Never did she imagine that, years later, she would be in charge of guiding the ever-evolving collection. Even her one-of-a-kind designs are made to be worn and enjoyed daily—not just for special occasions.
