Sam Nivola Answers White Lotus Fans’ Burning Finale Questions — Including Why Lochlan Didn’t Wash the Blender

The actor also weighed in on some of the wild fan theories he saw this season

This article contains spoilers from the season 3 finale of The White Lotus.

Sam Nivola is giving fans his side of the story on The White Lotus‘ season 3 finale.

The highly anticipated conclusion to the Mike White-led anthology series saw Lochlan (Nivola) nearly die after using a dirty blender his father, Timothy (Jason Isaacs), used to mix poisonous pong pong fruit seeds in order to kill his family and save them from the legal troubles that await them back home.

After using the appliance to make his morning protein shake, Lochlan gets sick and begins having visions as he loses consciousness. Timothy eventually sees the blender on the counter and rushes outside to try to revive his son, who appears dead.

During his April 7 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Nivola, 21, addressed the viral scene and answered burning fan questions about why his character would choose to use a dirty blender to make his shake in the first place.

“My answer is that I was expecting that Saxon [his character’s older brother, played by Patrick Schwarzenegger] had made a protein shake in it,” he explained, joking that he’s gotten the question a “thousand times” in the last 12 hours.

“I didn’t know — I thought it was just leftover protein. So I’m like, ‘You know what? A little extra protein never hurt anybody,’ ” he added with a laugh. “I’m not that much of an idiot!”

Elsewhere in his interview, Nivola weighed in on the various fan theories that have been circulating about the latest season of the anthology series. While he admitted he doesn’t “read a lot of that stuff,” he confirmed that fans were right about at least one thing.

“The rule of threes thing,” he said. “I don’t know if anyone saw that, but someone posted a theory that was like, you know, Chelsea says in the beginning bad things come in threes. And there’s the three kids and the three women and all these threes.”

“And then, I mean, am I allowed or should I not say a spoiler?” he asked before host Jimmy Fallon gave him the go-ahead.

“Three people die!” he declared.

The season ended with Rick (Walton Goggins) shooting and killing Jim (Scott Glenn), the man he accused of murdering his father. A shootout ensued between Rick and Jim’s body guards, and his girlfriend Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) dies after she’s caught in the crossfire.

As Rick starts carrying Chelsea’s body away, Sritala orders security guard Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) to kill Rick. He shoots and kills him from behind before they fell into a pond together, making her premonition that “bad things happen in threes” come true.

The White Lotus season 3 is streaming in full on Max.
