Vietnamese forward gifts wife $79,000 for Lunar New Year

Vietnam national team forward Phan Van Duc surprised his wife Vo Nhat Linh with VND2 billion (US$79,000) for the Lunar New Year.

Linh, 27, revealed on social media that on Jan. 15, Duc made four bank transfers to her, each worth VND450 million. The following day, the forward who’s playing for V. League club Cong An Ha Noi (CAHN) added another VND200 million as a congratulation for her successful weight loss, bringing the total to VND2 billion, she said.

While Duc’s performance over the past year has been underwhelming at both club and national levels, his income remains strong. CAHN are currently fifth in the V. League this season with 14 points after nine rounds, trailing the table leader Thanh Hoa by seven points with one game in hand. Additionally, Duc was excluded from Vietnam’s squad for the 2024 ASEAN Cup, a tournament where the team emerged as champions.

Despite these setbacks, Duc, 28, remains one of the highest-paid players in Vietnam, earning a monthly salary of approximately VND100 million at CAHN.

Duc and Linh married in early 2020 and have a four-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son.

The couple resides in Vinh City in the central province of Nghe An. They own a Mercedes valued at over VND2 billion and operate a hotel and restaurant business in Nghe An.
