Some days, the internet seems to revolve around Charli XCX. Spotify released its annual, personalized Wrapped packages for users on Wednesday, many of which prominently featured the Brat musician, who also stars on a new cover story for Variety. If that wasn’t enough, Charli XCX was also at the center of a fracas between fellow musicians Matty Healy and Azealia Banks.

It all started when Banks, who is known for spicy social media posts, tweeted that “Charli used to be sooo pretty. Ugh.” Charli XCX is engaged to George Daniel, Healy’s bandmate in the 1975, and the band collaborated with her on the remix to her song “I Might Say Something Stupid.” Speaking of which, Healy jumped in to defend his friend. What followed was a long, fiery exchange between him and Banks on X (formerly Twitter).
“Azealia you seem to have a blind spot when it comes to your ‘reads,'” Healy, who goes by the alias Truman Black online, tweeted in response to the rapper from what appears to be his personal account. “All the women you attack seem to be culturally relevant, attractive, divisive and NICE people. I think this makes you jealous cos you’re so talented but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap bro.”
At first, Banks responded, “That wasn’t a read. I’ve known Charli since she was 16 and always thought she was absolutely gorgeous, but there’s a stark contrast between this and this,” comparing her Sucker album cover from 2014 with a more recent photo. Then the exchange got testy, with Banks cryptically threatening Healy (“you are very easy to set up. A bad bag, a bad pill. It only costs $200 and an ounce of weed to do you”) and him going nuclear in response. Both have since deleted their most incendiary tweets.
“I’ll f—ing slap you so hard I’ll get a Guinness world record for the highest a rat some b—h calls a wig has ever flown,” Healy posted.
He has since deleted the aggressive tweet and apologized, saying “Nah I can’t be saying I’m gonna hit a girl that’s insane I’m sorry. You just can’t keep being so mean about my mates and my mrs it’s really hurtful gets me well defensive.”
Healy is currently engaged to model and musician Gabbriette, who Banks also appeared to criticize in tweets.

Like Banks, Healy has also landed in hot water before on social media — most notably last year, after he made lewd comments on the podcast Cum Town about rapper Ice Spice and his porn preferences. Ice Spice has since said “he apologized to me a bunch of times. We’re good,” but Banks brought it up during this latest fracas.
“F— your mates honestly,” Banks tweeted. “This is like the third time you’ve come out of your face spewing violence specifically towards black women. Brutalized porn, Ice Spice, now you’re threatening to slap me and think a small apology will suffice.”
Healy posted that “no but we should actually sort this out on the remix,” referencing Charli XCX’s recent collaboration with Lorde on “Girl, So Confusing,” but Banks does not seem receptive. She has threatened to sue Healy for his deleted comment, and also insulted his teeth, saying they “look like White Castle burger onions.”
“And I said what the f— I said,” she wrote. “Charli has horrible f—ing plastic surgery. Period. Do something.”
