Designer Tran Anh Khoa’s “A Oi” collection taking motherhood to the runway

As part of the Grand Fashion Show – VNGF Era 2, designer Tran Anh Khoa presents the collection “A oi,” inspired by the song “Me yeu con” by composer Nguyen Van Ty. Tracing the journey from childhood memories to the changes that accompany growing up, the collection explores the bond between mother and child through natural materials, handcrafted techniques, and a color palette that evokes familiar scenes of everyday life.

A lullaby-like story

“A oi” was developed by designer Tran Anh Khoa, inspired by “Me yeu con,” a song composed by Nguyen Van Ty. The song serves as the starting point for the designer’s exploration of the bond between mother and child across different stages of life, rather than focusing solely on the image of a mother as remembered from childhood.

In “A oi,” the story unfolds as an emotional journey, from the vague feelings of childhood to the distance that emerges during the process of growing up. As individuals step beyond the family circle and gain experiences of their own, their understanding of a mother’s love gradually changes.

This journey shapes the collection’s approach, with memories revisited from the perspective of someone who has reached adulthood. “A oi” therefore revolves around a familiar emotion in family life while emphasizing the process of recognition and understanding that follows the changes each person experiences.

Living to the spirit of sustainability

Alongside its exploration of the bond between mother and child, “A oi” is developed in the spirit of Sustainable & Eco Fashion. Designer Tran Anh Khoa selects natural materials as the foundation of the collection, combining them with eco-printing, ecological dyeing, and handcrafted surface-treatment techniques.

The use of these techniques creates an approach that aligns with the collection’s spirit. The garment surfaces are treated to preserve the marks of craftsmanship rather than achieve absolute uniformity. Each technique therefore serves not only a technical purpose but also helps incorporate natural elements into the overall design.

Sustainable & Eco Fashion is expressed in “A oi” through the choice of materials and processing methods. This approach connects fashion with values rooted in everyday life while providing a foundation for conveying stories of memory through the language of clothing.

A palette of the good ol’ days

The color palette of “A oi” focuses on ivory, beige, and earth brown, complemented by shades of green inspired by vegetation. This restrained palette creates an overall aesthetic rooted in nature and familiar spaces preserved in memory.

Ivory and beige provide a soft foundation for the designs, while earth brown introduces the warmth and familiarity of natural materials. The shades of green inspired by vegetation serve as a connection to the outdoors, evoking everyday scenes associated with childhood.

The color choices also align with the collection’s Sustainable & Eco Fashion direction. Rather than relying on strong contrasts, “A oi” focuses on tones found in nature, maintaining consistency between the narrative, materials, and visual expression of the garments.

From the color palette to the surface-treatment techniques, every element of the collection reflects a sense of simplicity and connection to memory. This is also how designer Tran Anh Khoa translates the theme of motherly love from an emotional narrative into tangible design choices.

New appearance on the runway of Grand Fashion Show

“A oi” will be presented on the runway at Grand Fashion Show – Vietnam NextGen Fashion Era 2, taking place on October 9, 2026, at Thu Thiem Riverstage in Ho Chi Minh City.

The collection’s appearance at the event marks the next step in bringing its story of memory and motherly love to the fashion runway. The materials, printing and dyeing techniques, surface treatments, and color palette will be showcased directly through designer Tran Anh Khoa’s designs.

From a familiar song to experiences shaped by the process of growing up, “A oi” uses fashion as a medium to tell a story about family. The collection reflects on childhood memories, the distance that emerges over the years, and a deeper understanding of a mother’s love as people enter different stages of life.

On October 9, “A oi” will officially take to the Grand Fashion Show runway, further expanding its story from musical inspiration and memory into the realm of fashion presentation.
