Go Youn Jung Reflects On Her Role In “Moving,” Relationships With Co-Stars, Upcoming Drama, And More

Go Youn Jung recently teamed up with Elle Korea for a pictorial and interview!

After the photo shoot, the actress sat down to discuss a variety of topics. The interview began with a lighthearted question about what she’s like in winter. Go Youn Jung shared, “I always carry a blanket with me. When my feet get cold, I wrap it around myself. I also [spend winter with] bungeoppang (fish-shaped pastries). These days, they’re hard to find, so on my days off, I use an app to search for places that sell them.”

Looking back on this year, one of Go Youn Jung’s standout moments was winning the Best Rookie Actress award for “Moving” at the 3rd Blue Dragon Series Awards. When her name was called, she shared an emotional hug with her on-screen father Ryu Seung Ryong and on-screen mother Kwak Sun Young. It was a moment that unexpectedly pulled at the heartstrings.

Go Youn Jung reflected on the moment, saying, “I was so nervous at the time that I didn’t fully grasp what was happening. But after the ceremony, when I looked through the photos, I felt really emotional. In ‘Moving,’ my character Hee Soo loses her mother at a young age, so I had only briefly greeted Kwak Sun Young during a script reading. We never had a scene together. Of course, I was constantly thinking of my own mother while acting, so I felt a deep inner connection, but there wasn’t a scene where all three of us appeared together. That moment felt like the puzzle pieces finally came together.”

Known for getting along with her “Moving” colleagues as well as co-stars from other projects, the actress was asked if sharing small moments with them is one of the greatest joys of being an actor.

She replied, “Absolutely. If you treat work as just work or constantly complain about the difficulties, you get exhausted quickly. When I have people I enjoy working with on set, even if my body is tired, my heart is still in the right place. I first felt that way while filming ‘Law School,’ and as I continued filming ‘Alchemy of Souls,’ ‘Hunt,’ and ‘Moving,’ that feeling only grew stronger. I may still feel young at heart, but I always try to create a set where everyone can get close and have fun together. In reality, all my co-stars were fun and truly warm-hearted people.”

Go Youn Jung is also set to star in the upcoming drama “Can This Love Be Translated?” (working title).

She said, “Honestly, romantic comedies felt like a distant genre to me. Romance often flows through the characters’ emotions and ups and downs, and I was worried about whether I could express those parts well. While this project is a romance one, it also includes elements from other genres. I’ve had many discussions with the director and writer, and we’re working hard on the shoot. Please look forward to it!”

When asked what she hopes to still be doing 10 years from now, Go Youn Jung said, “Enjoying everything. I don’t want to approach work with negative thoughts or energy. I hope my love and enjoyment of the moment lasts forever.”

Asked about her way of creating a joyful daily life, Go Youn Jung said, “If possible, get plenty of sleep! And enjoy a delicious plate of spicy pork stir-fry, which is my favorite. The most important thing is having fun conversations with people. These are simple things you can take care of with just a little attention. I don’t think only grand things make life enjoyable.”

Go Youn Jung’s full interview and pictorial will be available in the December issue of Elle Korea.
