Rihanna Tricked Me Into Thinking She Got a Spiky Ombré Mullet

It would honestly be so badass.

Y’all, I need new glasses. The eyes I rely on to spot celebrities in inspiring and unexpected new beauty looks have, to my dismay, fooled me. And you know what? I kind of wish what I thought I saw had actually been real, because we could use a major hair moment to end the year.

Rihanna was spotted out and about in New York City over the weekend, wearing two casual looks that include jeans and what appear to be men’s Bottega Veneta Haddock Lace-Up Ankle Boots (available for a casual $1400). On Sunday night, she paired them with a Tupac tee, a black and green leather jacket, and what I was initally convinced was one of her boldest hairstyles in a very long time.

From a distance—or maybe just through my outdated prescription—if appeared that Rihanna had gotten a bold, voluminous, softly spiky mullet in a new rich brunette shade with blonder ombré areas that, further down, transitions into her signature dark brown.

Dear reader, I was so wrong. It’s a fur hat. (Whether or not it’s faux or real, I have no idea.)

Listen, it’s not such a crazy idea that she’d get an ombré mullet. Just a few weeks ago, Rita Ora did exactly that via wig, and it looked incredible. But alas, Rihanna’s look isn’t even a wig. It’s a deceitful chapeau.

That said, while the hair may not be the Earth-shattering look I thought it was, the rest of her beauty look is absolutely worth a look—even a stare. Her tawny blush is a perfect complement to her glossy, brown-lined lips, and her nails are sporting intricate details that I urgently wish I could get a better look at.

Which—as we’ve established—would probably require new glasses.
