Ilana Glazer Wore a Look That Nods to ‘Mother Hulu’ to the Celebration of Her Stand-Up Special

As Ilana Glazer celebrated Human Magic in New York City last night, the vibes could best be summed up as: “In the clurb, we all fam.” No, really: From getting ready in her hotel room to toasting her new stand-up comedy special, the evening was all about the power of teamwork and community.

When it came to selecting a glam squad, the Broad City alum chose to work with stylist Jared Ellner, makeup artist Rebecca Restrepo, hairstylist Matthew Monzon, and nail artist Molly Romah for a classic look that also honored her new project. The final ensemble? A little black dress by Mirror Palais, Hulu-green jewelry by Irene Neuwirth (paired with Glazer’s own wedding ring by Wendy Nichol), Steve Madden shoes, and a Sandy Liang bag.

“In the production of Human Magic, my executive producer and tour manager Madeline [Kim] and I were involved in all aspects of the look and feel, and the creative direction of the show,” Glazer tells ELLE.com. “We ultimately landed on a beautiful, timeless look. For the night, the color scheme was a nod to Mother Hulu, inspired by the polished feel of the special.”

During the big event, Hulu’s Hularious Celebration of Stand-Up Comedy, the actor and comedian mingled as much as possible—not only with her Human Magic collaborators, but also with her peers and friends in the comedy scene. As she put it, the highlight of her night was “connecting with my people.”

She adds, “It was thrilling to connect with Atsuko and Bill Burr, who I’m big fans of but never met before. And to see Roy Wood Jr. and [Jim] Gaffigan is always really fun. Got some time with my team: my manager and EP of this special, Susie Fox, head honcho comedy agent, Mike Berkowitz a.k.a. ‘Berk,’ a young and hungry agent who I’m obsessed with because she is Long Island AF, Grace Goldstein, and my EP and rising star tour manager, Madeline Kim.

“But then, the working New York comics all cozied up in a corner. We got to genuinely hang out, and my heart swelled: Petey Deabreu, Jay Jurden, Marie Faustin, Sydnee Washington, Julia Shiplett, Derek Gaines, and Brittany Carney, to name a few.”

See how Glazer got ready for her big night, below. Human Magic begins streaming on Hulu December 20.
