On the evening of September 19, the Grünschnabel & Gänseblümchen brand brought a series of designs inspired by traditional Alpine folk costumes to the MuseumsQuartier runway. The presentation made a strong impression by transforming the classic Dirndl dress into youthful streetwear, combining vibrant checkered patterns with modern cropped silhouettes.
Strong concluding cultural highlight
The atmosphere on the closing day of fashion week grew increasingly vibrant as individual shows followed one another onto the MuseumsQuartier runway. Immediately after Elke Freytag’s 6:00 p.m. presentation came the 7:00 p.m. time slot, which erupted with the presence of Grünschnabel & Gänseblümchen alongside Kokoknit, maintaining the venue’s energy at its peak before the presentation by Kiki Korsett and the final gala that evening.
The venue at the MuseumsQuartier complex welcomed a large number of journalists, design professionals, and Central European fashion enthusiasts. Grünschnabel & Gänseblümchen is known for its focus on preserving Austria’s indigenous garment heritage, bringing traditional values into harmony with the flow of contemporary everyday fashion.
A white backdrop featuring the brand’s signature daisy emblem and logo was elegantly positioned at the end of the runway. Focused stage lighting highlighted every section of woven fabric, handcrafted lace edging, and the meticulous pleating techniques applied to the skirts by the brand’s skilled artisans.
Turning traditional garment to streetwear
The centerpiece of the collection was a series of signature Dirndl dresses traditionally worn by women in the Austrian Alps, reimagined through a youthful design perspective. A long red-and-white checkered maxi dress with black trim around its deep V-neckline created an elegant and graceful look. Mid-length dresses featuring multicolored accent patterns, checkered trim along the hems, and wide black bow belts at the waist also stood out. The combination created well-proportioned silhouettes that flattered the figure while preserving the distinctive spirit of Austria’s autumn festival season.
Classic checkered patterns in harmony with pleated skirts
Gingham checks and square-check patterns served as a recurring visual thread throughout the designs. The fashion house used layered sheer black mesh fabric over red-and-white checked flared skirts, creating a soft, airy movement with every stride of the models.
The combination of black-and-white halter-neck tops with flared skirts trimmed with black feathered lace was another noteworthy creation. A tightly fitted leather waist belt created an intriguing contrast between a nostalgic aesthetic and an edgy everyday style.
The ready-to-wear segment was further enriched by ensembles featuring long-sleeved black jackets with white lace-trimmed collars, paired with checked flared skirts. A white knitted turtleneck paired with a voluminous A-line skirt cinched with a black velvet bow belt offered an elegant outfit option for the early days of autumn.
