From football to fashion: Madam Pang’s Hermès obsession

Madam Pang, the president of Thailand’s football association and heiress to one of Thailand’s richest families with a net worth of US$890 million, is celebrated for her taste in Hermès bag designs.

Renowned for her passion for fashion and beauty, Madam Pang is regarded as a style icon across Thailand, celebrated for her elegant and trendy fashion sense.

She is the founder of Saint Honoré, a Bangkok-based company that distributes luxury goods, including Hermès, throughout Thailand; and is credited as a pioneer in introducing designer labels to Thailand, as reported by the South China Morning Post.

She is frequently seen with luxury bags, often choosing Hermès for her personal collection.

In a February 2024 interview with Prestige magazine, she expressed her admiration for Hermès: “I have always been a fan of Hermès.”

“They are not just fashion items,” she stated. “For example, an Hermès Birkin bag takes no less than 16 hours to make, and it is a true work of art.”

This brand constitutes a significant part of her collection.

She was once photographed in a short, loose-fitting dress, complementing her look with a light blue Birkin bag.

Among her prized possessions is a rare Faubourg Birkin, a design unveiled at the end of 2019.

This model, inspired by the façade of the Hermès store at 24 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris, was the first Birkin to be crafted in a 20 cm size and features the delicate sellier stitching usually reserved for the Kelly bag.

While it’s unclear how much Madam Pang paid for this bag, a similar version in gray crocodile skin and Epsom leather with brass hardware was sold for 214,200 euros (US$220,729) in a November 2024 Christie’s online auction.

She also owns the Himalaya Birkin, crafted from albino crocodile skin, which is valued at several hundred thousand dollars.

Madam Pang has a preference for both Birkin and Kelly styles from Hermès. At events, she often opts for a wallet or a mini Kelly bag instead of a conventional stylish clutch.

Her airport attire includes jeans, a polo shirt, and a Hermèa bag.

She was also spotted donning intriguing color combinations, such as blue garments paired with a green mini Kelly bag.

Preferring medium and small-sized bags, Madam Pang showcases a neat and elegant style. Aside from Hermès, she also shops at Chanel, Fendi, and Bottega Veneta.

Born Nualphan Lamsam, 58, Madam Pang is the fifth-generation heiress of a family with extensive interests in banking and insurance, holding significant stakes in KBank, Phatra Insurance, Muang Thai Insurance, and Muang Thai Life Assurance.

Her family, led by cousin Banthoon Lamsam, ranks as the 37th richest in Thailand, according to Forbes. She currently serves as the director and CEO of Muang Thai Insurance.

In addition to her entrepreneurial success, Madam Pang has been a prominent figure in Thai football, significantly impacting both the men’s and women’s teams over the past decade.

Under her leadership, the women’s national team competed in the 2015 and 2019 World Cups, while the men’s team secured back-to-back AFF Cup (now ASEAN Cup) titles in 2020 and 2022. Following their 2022 AFF Championship victory, she personally awarded the men’s team 26 million baht (US$750,000), as reported by The Nation.

During the 2023 World Cup, she pledged 1 million baht for each point the national team earned in the second round qualifiers.

She also played a key role in elevating Thai professional football club Port FC to prominence in the Thai League during her tenure as its president. At a team bonding event, she famously distributed lavish gifts, including Rolex watches, iPhone 13s, and designer bags.

In a historic achievement last February, Madam Pang became the first woman elected as president of the Football Association of Thailand, securing the majority of votes.
