Why not bring some shine to your style?
If anything can take any outfit from bland to bold, it is a piece of jewelry. We will never deny the evergreen appeal of simple jewelry like link chains, small hoop earrings, and solitaire rings, but there’s also something alluring about trying on more over-the-top styles. And there’s nowhere better to find inspiration than New York Fashion Week.
The unique blend of established brands and newcomers always promises a fortune of jewelry options from which we can get some sartorial inspiration. Take Tory Burch and Ib Kamara’s Off-White, where earrings were anything but ordinary or romantic chokers at Sandy Liang and Wiederhoeft that felt like the perfect flirty touch to any outfit. Jewelry also went beyond the typical pieces at NYFW as something as mundane as belts became jewelry in their own right as designers like Kate Barton and Jonathan Cohen x Swarovski blinged their’s out to the max
As the spring/summer shows of New York Fashion Week come to an end, here are our top five jewelry trends you’ll be dying to try on next spring. Or maybe even now.
Extraterrestrial Extravagance
At NYFW, designers looked to the skies and beyond for jewelry inspiration, especially earrings, and the results proved out of this world. Tory Burch conjured up intricately beaded alien and octopus-shaped earrings in bright colors, adding an intriguing mystique to the collection. Taking a note from Top Gun for his first NYFW for Off-White showing, Ib Kamara sent models down the runway wearing large earrings in the shapes of high-tech aircraft that looked as if they were ready to launch into space.
A Lil’ Romance
A choker necklace is the perfect piece to wear for an extra bit of charm. Whether you’re a minimalist or dopamine dresser, there was a choker for you from Wiederhoeft, where they were decadent affairs adorned with beautiful baubles and beads, to Sandy Liang, where they appeared as thinly buckled strips. No matter which you choose, they’re sure to add flair to your neckline.
All Wrapped Up
The jewelry of NYFW broke out of normal shapes and sizes as designers such as Grace Ling and Patricia Bonaldi of PatBo pushed the boundaries of their bijoux. At PatBo, pearls were strung together into a long body harness fixed by a crystal and ruby center, which felt seductive and stylish. Grace Ling took enveloping her models in adornment even further as metal sculptures seemed to grow out of the garments and entangle themselves onto their bodies.
Stunning Statements
While subtle jewelry will never go out of style, there’s something undeniably fabulous about leaning into the finer things in life and wearing over-the-top jewelry. Evening wear phenom Bach Mai styled 11 looks with diamond jewelry pieces from his spring/summer collection from jewelry house Leviev. At the Christian Siriano show, models walked in a fantastical forest setting wearing flora-inspired statement necklaces and earrings.
Crystal Constellations
Classic leather and rope belts will never go out of style, but it never hurts to step outside your comfort zone and go for more blingy options. Crystal belts from NYFW pulled us into their orbits with their chic, constellation-like lines. Kate Barton’s first runway show featured large silver ones completely bedazzled with crystals that made them look like shooting stars, while Jonathan Cohen worked with Swarovski to style pieces with multi-colored crystal strands that weaved into one another for a perfect visual center to his looks.
