There’s a Lot to Unpack About Charli XCX’s Cool-Girl Outfit

I’m breaking it down here.

When you basically invented Brat Girl Summer, it’s only fitting you’re going to spearhead something like Brat Girl Fall, too. There’s so much going on in the world, so it’s time to live big, shine bright, and wear whatever the heck you want, even if it’s a bit funky, wacky, and wild. Fashion is about having fun, and as Charli XCX proves, nothing’s off limits, and having an IDGAF attitude is the only way to go—at this point.

The singer was snapped out and about in New York City, on what I’d call one of the cooler days we’ve yet experienced here on the East Coast. She still semi-bared her legs, however, making me think, “What is cold, anyway?” Brat Girl Fall, y’all. She wore denim Bermuda shorts from Ksubi, because yes, you can wear them right now, smartly styling them with the ‘It’ boots of fall: slouchy black leather boots that looked like they had a denim interior—umm, cool? This made it look like the boots and denim shorts were pieced together.

The finishing touch was a simple tee, a fuzzy jacket, and last but certainly not least, the hottest bag of the season: the Aupen Nirvana that’s been carried by just about every celeb, including Taylor Swift.

As we know, an outfit is only as good as its accessories; it all comes together when the shoes, the bags, and the jewelry work together—and Charli XCX nailed it to a T. Her black leather Aupen bag, an asymmetrical style with a braided handle that’s so popular, it sold out in nearly every color (save for a few that you can still snag below), is crafted in a beautiful black leather that complements her black leather boots. The combo makes the look, complete with a mix of textures like denim and fuzzy faux fur, a total win, which is why I’m running to recreate it myself.

The secret to a cool look, IMO, is not thinking too much. Mix and match pieces, and wear the unexpected, like Bermuda shorts in the fall. Then, round it all together with a few ‘It’ items, in Charli XCX’s case, the Aupen bag and slouchy leather boots. Well done, is all I can say!
